The Miramar Beach Restaurant
sits on the ocean’s edge 2.7 miles north of Half Moon
Bay and 1.3 miles south of Pillar Point Harbor just off
Highway 1 beside the Pacific Ocean.
Half Moon Bay is just 30 minutes from San Francisco and
45 minutes from Silicon Valley. It’s proximity to
the population centers of the Bay Area makes it a favorite
spot for corporate meetings and events.
Coming over the hills to the Coastside, corporate event
attendees will start to separate from the hustle and bustle
of the work centers and discover a location with an atmosphere
that is conducive to planning, strategizing, team building,
or just plain relaxing.
The Miramar Beach Restaurant & Bar has a long and colorful
history going back more than 70 years. During Prohibition,
from 1919 to 1931, Miramar Beach was notorious as a drop-off
point for illegal liquor. Smugglers bought their booze in
Canada and shipped it down the coast to Half Moon Bay. Under
the cover of darkness small vessels, known as “rum
runners” met the large ships and transferred their
illicit cargo to shore. The smugglers found this isolated,
sparsely located area ideal for landing contraband liquor
yet it was close enough for San Franciscans to motor down
the coast and purchase the banned elixir.
Since the Coastside’s “Golden Era,” nearly
all the once famous (or infamous) speakeasies have disappeared.
Only a handful of buildings from those days still stand.
Memories of the past still live at the Miramar Beach Restaurant
and Bar.
We invite your corporate meeting attendees to share in the
memories of the Coastside’s colorful past. Please
feel free to browse through the restaurant and enjoy our
collection of old photos (circa 1920) from around the area. |
