The Miramar Beach Restaurant was originally designed and built as a Prohibition speakeasy. Inside were revolving kitchen cabinets and other secret compartments where illegal liquor was concealed from the prying eyes of the “G-men.” Customers are invited to enjoy the memories of the Northern California Coastside’s colorful past and browse through their extensive collection of old photos (circa 1920).
In 1916 the Miramar’s bar held secret compartments for stashing illegal liquor — it now provides ocean views of the Pacific Ocean from every seat. Strikingly beautiful sunsets are a regular evening event at this Northern California location near Half Moon Bay.
The Miramar Beach Restaurant Bar was renovated in 2004. Renovating the old bar, parts of which were built in 1916 when the Miramar was a Prohibition speakeasy, was a daunting task but one which has yielded great rewards. Patrons can now enjoy ocean views from every seat around this elegant new 4-sided island bar. The large, mahogany bartop facilitates eating meals as well as enjoying one's favorite libation.
Mood lighting is provided by Tiffany-style lamps along the bar and one remarkable Hungarian chandelier hanging from a pyramid recessed ceiling over the impressive center display of bottles.
In preparation for further expansion, the south wall of the Miramar Beach Restaurant was replaced with sets of glass double doors which will lead out to decks for dining and partying at tables warmed with standing heaters seating around cozy firepits facing the ocean.
Appetizers are available at all times at the bar as well as the restaurant. Happy hours Monday – Friday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. offer daily drink specials to complement the calamari picante, oysters and buffalo prawns that are among customers’ favorites.
The Miramar is open 7 days a week for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. The Miramar Beach Restaurant also offers its facilities for private parties, rehearsal dinners, wedding ceremonies and receptions.
